Rosh Hashana Challah Cover Embroidery Kit - No Threads
Details
This challah cover is designed especially for Rosh Hashana when our prayers are for a coming year of peace and health, success and prosperity. It is customary in many homes to start the festive evening meal with foods that symbolize these hopes.
The apple dipped in honey represents the sweetness we hope for.
The pomegranate is a symbol of the amount of merit we want to acquire - when G-D opens our account book, we want it to be crammed with good deeds just as the seeds are packed inside the pomegranate.
The other six foods depicted on the challah cover are symbolic not because of their form or taste but because of their name in Hebrew, whose root letters give rise to a play on words which transforms into a prayer.
With the peas- "rubia" in Hebrew - we pray that our merit should increase.
With the dates "tamar" - that our enemies desist.
With the carrot "gezer" - that evil decrees against us should be anulled.
With the leek "carte" - that those who seek to thwart us should be stopped.
With the beet greens "silka" - again, that the evil decrees against us should be made null and void.
